ode to ginger

i seriously fail at life...i'm tired as hell and here i am on here and watching family matters...oh well. anyways i guess this post is dedicated to my favorite puppydog (ok she's really not a puppy anymore, but she'll always be my baby) Ginger who i miss like crazy..which is an everyday thing. Who would've thunk the Cooper family would be a dog family.

her like a baby...it usually takes
about a minute before she starts whining

pretty sure this is my all time favorite
picture of her....it may or may not
be the caller id picture
on my phone for when home calls me

gingy is so funny, because we can get her all riled up and start barking and growling at outside even it there's nothing out there. she also sings sometimes.

sometime last year i came home for a weekend after being gone for a long time, my friend pulled up in front of my house and my dad was sitting on our front porch talking to a neighbor with ginger at his feet. i called ginger's name and she sat up and looked at me, it was so cute because it took a good 10 seconds to register that it was me then she ran to the car..i seriously almost cried. she's such a smart dog. my dad trained her really well (thanks in due part to cesar milan the dog whisperer) but she understands what a treat is and she automatically sits as soon as we open the basement door to get her treats. it's so hard to leave the house, because she really does do that puppydog "why are you leaving me look"...i have to remind everyone not to turn around and look at her before they walk out the door...it's heartbreaking lol.

she also loves to cuddle with my sister and i when we come home from school..i love it, she's such a sweet dog.

laying in bed listening to
bright eyes..crying during every song

i'm not even sad..i'm such a weird kid

this song started it:

i'll admit it does have a special meaning to me, but
i can genuinely say i cried because of the lyrics
...it's a beautiful song

did that just happen?!

definitely just had a conversation with ex-lovah about his dating woes and finding the right girl and all that jazz...SERIOUSLY!! i'm still shocked. i wish i had someone to give me a round of applause when i do well...like tonight. trust. just a few weeks ago i would not have been able to have that conversation without wanting to throw up....or throw my phone across the room. I'm thinking it has something to do with my change of emotion towards our whole ordeal or whatever blah blah. it was a nice conversation between friends..it was actually pretty funny. idk it was cool. glad i could finally get to this point after 50 years. nice.

(good thing he doesn't read my blog...i doubt he'd appreciate me putting his business out there like that)

Him: Hey

Me: Hey there, whats up?

Him: Nothin just a stupid day. Can't wait till it's over. For the record i totally hate people. People suck.

Me: Aww lol :( ...but yea ppl do suck...whats going on?

Him: Just the fact that i'm alone in this city. I have no real close friends except you and dave. And as for the dating scene: it's pathetic. Every girl I meet is like mentally fucked up.

Me: :(( thats sad!! (but i have to admit i laughed at "mentally fucked up" lol they all can't be bad)

Me: Maybe you're just meeting the wrong ones for you

Him: LMAO they are syd they are. I love new york, but i hate new york because of it. It sucks.

Him: Yeah i def am.

Me; The story of the tragic writer living in the concrete jungle looking for love...flimed in black & white. No music. I like it..…just copyrighted it lol. It’ll be ok!! The best things come when you least expect them…or do what I do and pretend like you’re not looking lol

Him: LMAO dang it! I already love that film! Yeah, i guess that's what i'm gonna have to do. Oh well, this too shall pass.

Me: I try lol. Yea it will..just takes some time. Do you hang out with frat brothers that live in nyc?

Him: I don't want to. I just wanna find someone that's right for me:(

Me: :(( i knooow, me too! But The right person is worth the wait...

Him: No she's not! I completely despise her for not showing up sooner. Lol

Me: You are not helping my "feel better oprah moment" right now lol. Paul i'm telling you she'll show up when you least expect it..

Him: Lol silly. Fine syd, i'll take your advice. ...For now lol

Me: Lol! I'll just be expecting a dear abby letter next week lol. But i do understand where you're coming from..trust it took me forever to get to the point where I was perfectly ok with waiting nd not settling b.c I deserve the best ..lol

Him: Lol yeah that's true. you do, btw, deserve the best. Thanks syd. Miss you lots.

Me: And you do too!! Dont you ever forget it! :) miss you too...i'm glad we can talk like this

Him: Lol me too me too. Aight i'm off to bed. Night night:)

Me: Night!

the woes of being a minority art history student

of course i should be studying, but instead i'm messing around on the interweb with the nutcracker playing in the background because i'm lame like that.

here comes another bitching post:

attending a predominately white school (predominately =ing 90%) it's not surprising to find myself being the only Black student in class..especially once i get passed (past?) the huge, cattle-call lecture classes. after sophomore year of college i got kind of used to it even though it sucked. now moving on to my main point dealing with art history. it's really hard to be an art history major and take all these required classes and not see any Black or even African artists. we have classes in the following subject areas: greek.roman.islamic/byzantine.northern/italian renaissance.18/19th century europe.modern.american culture. the only time i learn about Black or African artists is for the 5 minutes in modern and american culture when my professors talked about the great migration and the harlem renaissance, because you know that was the only time when Black artists were making art. i took a world architecture class my sophomore year and it was AMAZING. we learned about architecture from all over africa, southeast asia, the middle east. i loved studying the structures of ancient African tribes. but alas that was it. so yesterday at the end of my american art and culture class my professor asked us to anonymously fill out a midterm "performance/evaluation/how's the class going so far" type thing. one of the questions is what would we change/improve or whatever. so i said i would like to study more Black artists, because they're a part of american culture too. after i turned it in i realized i'm the only Black student in the class...this should be interesting. but i'm glad i said something. we learn all about the european artists that came over to america and even the white artists that lived here, but not anything is said about the Black artists. idk if it'll change anything..still glad i said something ..

in other news it official, i will be in the great, sunny city of san diego for my spring break! i'm sooo excited. the only other time i've been to california was when i was a baby and my mom took me, but since i was way too young to remember the trip i don't count it.

i also have figured out tattoo #2: i want a kooky, fat looking owl (possibly wearing thick glasses, i haven't decided yet) with 2 small music notes near it so it looks like it's hooting; on my left wrist. one of my new favorite shirts has a huge, awesome looking owl on it so owls are starting to grow on me...also i found out they're one of athena's attributes which is perfect, because athena has always been my favorite greek deity.

enough chit chat i guess..time to make myself useful and start studying

cool thing of the week

i'm going to try this "cool thing of the week" gig,
but idk how long it will last since i always end
up finding something new every day.
anyways. cool thing of the week this week:

(insert drumroll)

I found it via iTunes Radio
but basically it's streaming readings of the Qur'an!! it's awesome!
I've always found Arabic a beautiful language both written and spoken
(thanks to my art history teachers who played Islamic calls to prayer during class)
I love that the Qur'an is recited as almost like a song...they don't just SAY it..it's sung.
the calls to prayer are definitely my favorite...they sound so beautiful.

so yea that's the cool thing of the week...and what happens when a person tries to cut down
her tv time in order to get more studying done...lord help me.

"you look like a smelly pirate hooker!"

(why yes i am watching anchorman)

so this post is in response to my expletives/yelling post

being the genius that i am, after about 2 years i have finally realized that you (you really =ing me) can have chemistry with someone and it be ok...even if you used to have feelings for that person. idk what's wrong with me. yes i have been on a crazy emotional rollercoaster (cue vivian green and her song emotional rollercoaster) with my ex (who i reference as ex lovah) although i could never admit that to him, but tonight i realized that if he still makes me laugh during our conversations that's ok. one of the reasons we even got together was because as friends we had such great chemistry. we could not talk for a month (ok for weeks really..which has happened) and then have a conversation and it sounds like we haven't spent any time apart...it's crazy. so i have officially accepted that though we may never be on that romantic level again we'll always have chemistry. im down with that.
(idk if any of that even made a lick of sense)

anyways, my friend alicia told me about this, it definitely means something special to me being bi-racial myself...i actually got teary eyed while watching it.
